대학 입학전형별 학업성취도와 대학교육 만족도

초록

본 연구는 대학 입학전형별 학업성취도와 대학 교육환경 및 전공 교육과정 만족도 차이에 대하여 대졸자직업이동경로조사를 활용하여 실증적으로 분석하였다. 정시모집 입학자에 비하여 수시모집 입학자는 성적보다는 학문적 흥미나 적성을 고려하여 대학이나 전공을 선택하는 경향이 높게 나타났지만 대학 입학 후 학업성취도와 전공을 다시 선택할 수 있다면 동일 전공학과를 선택할 확률은 유의하게 낮게 추정되었다. 대학 순위별 대학 교육환경 만족도는 하위권, 대학 전공교육 만족도는 중위권, 학업성취도와 동일 전공학과 선택여부는 중하위권 대학에서 가장 낮게 추정되었다. 전공분야별로는 학업성취도와 전공 교육과정 만족도는 전자･전기･기계공학, 대학 교육환경 만족도는 간호･보건, 동일 전공학과 선택여부는 도시･산업･화학공학에서 가장 낮게 추정되었다. 상위권 대학과 의･약학에서는 대학 입학전형 간 유의한 차이가 발견되지 않았다. 정시 대비 수시모집 입학자의 동일 전공학과를 선택하지 않은 주된 이유는 중상위권 대학의 경우 취업에 어려움이 있거나 관련 직업의 임금이나 전망이 좋지 않아서, 전자･전기･기계공학의 경우 적성에 맞지 않거나 학업에 대한 부담감 때문일 확률이 높게 추정되었다. 이러한 분석결과는 대학 입학전형, 대학 순위, 전공분야별 맞춤형 대입 평가과정과 학생 진로교육 및 지원프로그램의 필요성을 시사한다.

Abstract

Early admission programs have become widespread to the point where around 80 percent of four-year college applicants are admitted by early decision in South Korea. This study examines the relationship between admission round and college performance, including academic achievement and satisfaction. The findings show students accepted through early decision program are more likely to choose a college and major based on their strengths and interests but have significantly lower GPAs and a higher likelihood of major regret than those accepted through regular decision process. The significance and extent of those gaps are not uniform across students with different college prestige and major fields although no statistical difference is observed either at the most prestigious colleges or medicine and pharmacy majors. The reasons of major regret also differ across college prestige and major fields. Taken all results together, rigorous admission process, career education, and student affairs program specific to admission types, college prestige, and major fields are recommended to improve students’ access to and success in higher education.
