Abstract

This study analyzed the structural relationship in which social network service (SNS) self-efficacy among individuals with disabilities influences disability accept- ance through the mediating effects of self-esteem and depression. In the context of an increasingly digital society, the study examined the psychological impact of SNS self-efficacy on the psychosocial adaptation of people with disabilities from an emotional perspective. Data were drawn from the 2022 Panel Survey on the Living Conditions of Persons with Disabilities, conducted by the Korea Disabled People’s Development Institute, focusing on 552 registered individuals who responded to SNS-related items. Structural equation modeling and bootstrapping were employed to test the mediating effects. The results revealed that self-esteem and depression, respectively, mediated positive and negative indirect effects between SNS self-effi- cacy and disability acceptance. The direct effects were not significant, supporting a full mediation model. These findings suggest that SNS self-efficacy indirectly pro- motes disability acceptance by enhancing emotional resources. Among the control variables, only disability severity showed a significant influence. This study under- scores the need for emotion-focused digital literacy programs and emotional sup- port systems to enhance SNS self-efficacy. It also provides theoretical and policy implications by empirically identifying the psychological pathways through which SNS self-efficacy fosters emotional recovery and self-acceptance among individuals with disabilities—moving beyond a purely technical approach.
