본 연구는 장애인의 자아존중감과 우울의 상호관련성을 분석하고, 이들 관계에서 친구관계의 영향과 반려동물의 조절효과를 검증하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해, 본 연구는 ‘2020년 장애인 삶 패널조사 3차 조사’ 자료를 활용하였으며, 자아존중감, 우울, 반려동물 유무 등 설문에 모두 응 답한 4,423명을 대상으로 분석하였다. 자아존중감과 우울의 상호관련성을 검증하고 이에 대한 영 향요인을 파악하기 위해 SUR 분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과, 장애인의 자아존중감과 우울 간에 유의미한 부적 상호관련성이 확인되었다. 둘째, 친구 유무는 자아존중감 향상과 우울 감소에 유의 미한 영향을 미쳤으며, 특히 친구 유무는 우울에 대한 영향력이 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 반 려동물 보유는 친구가 없는 장애인의 우울 수준을 유의미하게 완화하는 조절효과를 보였다. 이에 따라, 장애인의 자아존중감 향상과 우울 감소를 위해 심리사회적 지지체계가 필요하며, 특히 사회 적 관계망이 취약한 장애인 대상으로 반려동물이라는 대안적 지원방안이 필요함을 시사하는 함의 를 도출하였다.
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the interrelationship between self-esteem and depres- sion among people with disabilities, and examine the effects of having friends on these psychological characteristics and the moderating role of pet ownership in this relationship. Using data from the ‘2020 Panel Survey on the Life of People with Disabilities’, 4,423 respondents who completed surveys on self-esteem, depression, and pet ownership were analyzed. Seemingly Unrelated Regression (SUR) analysis was conducted to verify the interrelationship between self-esteem and depression and identify influential factors. First, a significant negative interrelationship was found between self-esteem and depression among people with disabilities. Second, having friends showed significant positive effects on self-esteem and negative effects on depression, with a stronger impact on depression. Third, pet ownership demon- strated a significant moderating effect in reducing depression levels, particularly for people with disabilities who lack friends. The findings suggest the need for psycho- social support systems to enhance self-esteem and reduce depression among people with disabilities, particularly highlighting the importance of alternative support measures, such as pet ownership, for those with limited social networks.
