Abstract
“ACTS Theological Synoptic Movement” is a joint research project which has been carried out by the faculty since 1998. Its purpose is to clarify and articulate the theological position and missional task of ACTS. With a primary emphasis on “the central truth of Christianity” in all areas of theory and practice of Christian theology, this movement intends to propose a way to apply and embody this truth in all aspects of Christian faith and life. This intention is based on the conviction that both of the OT and the NT proclaim the central truth of Christianity. Therefore, one area of need is the examination of how the central truth is proclaimed from OT perspective. The present article contends that "the Day of the Lord"(hw"hy> ~Ay), which OT prophets proclaimed, is an echo that expresses the central truth by identifying its origin, meaning, and character with special reference to the book of Zephaniah. OT prophets delivered the central truth of Christianity by proclaiming the unfolding process and fulfillment of the redemptive history, which restores and fulfills God's creation purpose, as the concept of "the Day of the Lord." This understanding supports the relevance of ACTS Theological Synoptic Movement. For the movement's effective implementation in ACTS community, the writer proposes to overcome three limited understandings which have hindered this movement from being more practical: (1) limited understanding on the central truth; (2) taking the central truth as hermeneutic principle or method; (3) limited understanding on "synoptic."
