본 논문의 목적은 이만형의 평양대부흥에 대한 수정주의 입장을 정리하고, ACTS 신학공관과 학제 간 연구 관점으로부터 그의 입장을 비판적-종합적으로 평가하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 다음의 절차를 따르고자 한다. 첫째, 2장에서는 이만형에게 연구 동기를 제공한 류대영의 연구 배경 안에서 그의 연구를 간략하게 소개하고, 기본적으로 부흥에 대한 그의 입장이 무엇인지 그리고 평양대부흥은 ‘발명’ 혹은 ‘해석적 허구’라는 그의 주장이 무엇인지 구체적으로 살펴본다. 둘째, 3장에서는 ACTS의 신학공관 관점과 그의 주장과 연관이 되는 학제 간 연구 성과(주로 교회사/성경적-신학적 분야)를 통하여 그의 수정주의 입장(부흥에 대한 입장/‘발명’ 혹은 ‘해석적 허구’)에 대하여 비판적으로 평가하고, 나아가 그의 주장과 기존 입장과의 차이점들을 긍정적으로 종합하고자 한다. 이에 대한 최종적인 결과는 다음과 같이 정리될 수 있다. 우선, 그의 연구의 한계로는 보편적 관점에서 우선권을 강조, 초자연적계시보다 이성/경험 강조, 지엽적 주제 집중, 칭의보다 성화/성경보다 체험을 강조, 그리고 부흥의 배경에 집중한 나머지 역사적이고 신학적인 부흥의양상을 약화시킬 우려가 있다. 나아가 종합적인 평가로는 ACTS의 신학공관의 기독교 중심진리 우선권과 학문적 대화는 그의 주장에 대한 보완점이 될수 있으며, 그가 강조한 부흥의 이야기성은 앞으로 긍정적인 차원에서 연구가 더 되어져야 한다. 마지막 장에서는 지금까지의 논의를 간단히 정리하고, 본 논문의 실천적 유익 그리고 공헌과 한계를 다루고자 한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to summarize Man-Hyung Lee’s revisionist view of the Pyongyang Great Revival (PGR) and critically/synthetically evaluate his view in light of ACTS Theological Synopsis and interdisciplinary studies. I shall follow the next procedures, First, section two introduces Lee’s study briefly in terms of Dae-Yong Ryu’s research, which to him offered an academic motive and deals with Lee’s opinions of the PGR, theological foundation, and invention/interpretive fiction. Second, section three evaluates Lee’s opinions critically in light of ACTS Theological Synopsis and intercultural studies(church history and biblical-systematic theology) and synthesizes his weakness and strengths. The final results from this paper are as follows. First, for the critical evaluation, Lee tends to overemphasize a universal view on the revival, reason/experience, sanctification, rather than traditional Christian values such as supernatural revelation, justification, and the Bible. Moreover, there are concerns about weakening historical and theological aspects of the PGR in Lee’s research because of the connection between the PGR and the Enlightenment. Second, for the synthetic evaluation, the ACTS Theological Synopsis focusing Christian Central Truth and interdisciplinary dialogue will help overcome Lee’s weaknesses. In a positive sense, the PGR’s narrativity should be studied further. Finally, the last section summarizes the contents so far and deals with the contributions and limits of this paper.
