본 논문은 기독교 혼인 예식이 어떻게 형성이 되었으며 3가지 전통으로 발전되는 과정과 그 핵심 의례들 그리고 현대적 적용들을 다루고 있다. 본 논문을 통해 필자는 다음과 같은 연구의 결과물들을 도출하였다. 첫째, 기독교 혼인예식은 크게 3가지 전통으로 나눌 수 있으며 각 전통은자신의 역사적 전통들과 신학적 의미들을 표현하는 의례를 형성하였다. 둘째, 세 전통의 혼인예식이 강조하는 것은 동방교회에서는 혼인을 통한하나님 나라의 경험, 로마 가톨릭 교회에서는 성례전으로서 혼인미사, 그리고 개신교회에서는 하나님 앞에서의 서약과 말씀의 예전의 결합이다. 셋째, 현대에 이르러 의례 시장에 유입된 자본이 혼인시장까지 잠식하여전통적인 개신교회의 혼인예식이 점차 사라지고 있고 그 의미도 퇴색되고 있는 현실에서 개신교회들은 그 혼인예식이 기능하는 본연의 의미들 을 더욱 강조하여 의례자본에 의해 밀려나고 있는 통과의례예식을 다시회복해야할 것이다. 본 논문은 다음과 같은 순서로 진행된다. 2장에서는 초기 기독교 전통에서 혼인예식이 어떻게 형성되어졌는지에 대한 역사적 흐름을 다루고3장에서는 기독교 공인 이후 동방과 서방이 어떻게 혼인예식을 형성해갔는지를 연구하였다. 4장에서는 종교개혁자들이 로마 가톨릭의 성례로서혼인예식을 반대하며 어떻게 개신교의 혼인예식을 구성하고 발전시켜갔는지를 다루었다. 5장에서는 현대 한국의 개신교회의 3교단(예장통합, 기감, 기성)의 혼인예식을 비교하였고 의례자본에 의해 잠식된 개신교회의 혼인예식의 상황과 이를 극복하기 위한 세 가지 방안을 제시했다. 6장은 본 논문의 결론으로 대체적인 요약과 함께 마지막으로 기독교 혼인예식이 나아가야할 바를 다시 한 번 강조하였다.
Abstract
This research deals with how the Christian rite of marriage was formed, the process of development into three traditions, its core rituals, and its contemporary applications. Through this paper, I have arrived at the following research convictions. First, the Christian rite of marriage had been shaped three traditions, and each tradition formed its marriage rite expressing its own historical traditions and theological meanings. Second, the three traditions of the rite of marriage emphasize as follows: the experience of the Kingdom of God through marriage in the Eastern Church, the Marriage Mass as a sacrament in the Roman Catholic Church, and the liturgical union of vows before God and the service of the word in the Protestant Church. Third, in contemporary era, the capitalism flowing into the ritual area has eroded the wedding business, and the traditional Protestant marriage rite has been gradually disappearing and its meaning has been fading. The Protestant rite of passage, which has been pushed back by the ritual capitalism, have to be restored. This research proceeds in the following order. Chapter 2 deals with the historical flow of how the Christian rite of marriage had been shaped in the early Christian tradition, and Chapter 3 probes how the Eastern tradition and Western tradition had formed their rites of marriage after the fourth century. Chapter 4 deals with how the reformers opposed to the Marriage Mass as the Sacrament in Roman Catholicism, and how they organized and developed their own rites of marriage. Chapter 5 compares the rites of marriage of the three denominations of Korean Protestant churches (Presbyterian Church of Korea, Korean Methodist Church, and Korean Evangelical Holiness Church), and suggests the situation of the rite of marriage in Korean Protestant churches eroded by ritual capitalism and three suggestions to overcome this problem. Chapter 6, the conclusion of this thesis, gives a general summary, and emphasizes how the Christian rite of marriage should transform.
