명예-수치, 후원자-수혜자 문화에서 선교적 제자도: 한국 교회를 중심으로

초록

선교적 제자도는 지상명령의 핵심이라고 할 수 있다. 예수를 따르는것은 단순히 추종하는 것을 넘어 하나님 나라의 가치를 따르는 것이기도하다. 제자도는 언행일치의 삶, 신행일치의 삶인데, 선교 커뮤니케이션의 관점에서 그것은 메시지와 메신저의 삶의 일치이다. 이러한 선교적 제자도는 단순히 개인적 차원을 넘어서 선교적 교회의 공동체적 차원에서요청된다. 문화의 토양에 따라서 제자가 되는 것을 방해하는 요소도 다르고, 제자도를 형성하는 요소도 다를 수 있기 때문에 제자도 또한 상황화되어야 한다. 이 논문은 한국 문화의 특징을 명예-수치(honor-shame) 문화, 후원자-수혜자(patron-client) 문화의 관점에서 파악하고, 이러한 문화가 한국 교회 안에서 어떻게 작동하는지를 살펴본다. 그리고 성경적 제자도가 이러한 문화의 특징 속에서 어떻게 구현될 수 있는지를 살펴본다. 교회는 이 세상에 보내진 선교적 공동체로서 하나님 나라 차원에서 참으로 명예로운 것과 수치스러운 것이 무엇인지 분별하고 세상과 구별된모습을 보여주어야 한다. 선교적 제자도가 공동체적 차원에서 시행되고선교적 문화가 형성되기 위해서는 영성 형성(spiritual formation)과 생활 형성(life formation)의 훈련이 필요하다. 명예-수치 관점에서 영성을 형성하고생활을 형성하기 위해서는 교회 공동체적 차원에서 상황화된 제자도의훈련이 요청된다. 제자도가 삶 그 자체이며 실천이라면, 명예-수치의 새로운 관점이 개인과 공동체의 습관이 되도록 하는 것이 중요하다.

Abstract

Missional discipleship can be regarded as the heart of the Great Commission. Following Jesus involves adhering to the values of the Kingdom of God. Discipleship entails a life characterized by the consistency in one’s words and actions, or in one’s faith and practice. From the perspective of missional communication, this consistency signifies the congruence between the message and the messenger’s life. Such missional discipleship extends beyond individual dimensions to encompass the communal aspects of the church. Within the context of Korean culture, it is essential to investigate the cultural characteristics that may hinder the process of becoming a disciple. The factors that impede discipleship, as well as those that contribute to its formation, differ according to cultural contexts; thus, discipleship must be contextualized. This study analyzes the characteristics of Korean culture through the lenses of honor-shame and patron-client cultures, examining how these cultural elements operate within the Korean church and how biblical discipleship can be actualized within these cultural frameworks. As a missional community sent into the world, the church must exemplify what is truly honorable and shameful in accordance with the values of the Kingdom of God, consecrating itself from secular criterion. For missional discipleship to be effectively practiced at the communal level and for a missional culture to be fostered, spiritual formation and life formation are imperative. To cultivate spirituality and lifestyle through the honor-shame perspective, it is necessary to implement such training within church communities. If discipleship is understood as both life itself and a practice, it is crucial to make the new perspective on honor and shame become a habit of individuals and communities.
