지역 연구 모델로서의 제주학의 발전 방향:『탐라문화』의 활성화를 중심으로

이 글에서는 지역의 고유한 특성에 기초한 지역학이 오늘날 어떤 위상을 갖 고 있으며, 어떤 방향으로 나아갈 것인지를 점검하려 한다. 특히 제주학이 단순 한 지역 연구를 넘어서 지역과학으로 발전할 수 있는 가능성을 검토할 것이다. 그리고 연구 목적을 달성하기 위해서 연구의 철학적 기반을 탐색하기 보다는 제도적인 측면을 검토하는 방법을 선택한다. 우선 탐라문화연구소의 활동을 제주학회 등의 다른 연구 조직들과 비교하면 서 검토하였다. 그리고 학술지 『耽羅文化』의 그동안의 경향과 역할을 검토하 고, 학술지의 수준을 높이기 위해서 고려해야 할 점을 몇 가지 제시하였다. 지금까지 학술지에 실렸던 논문들은 대부분 무속 연구, 향토사, 방언 연구 등의 인문학 분야에 집중되었다. 앞으로 사회과학 전반, 그리고 자연과학으로 분야를 넓힐 필요가 있으며, 서평을 강화해야 할 것이다. 이를 통해서 단지 각 분야의 단순 집합이 아닌 진정한 지역학으로의 발전이 가능할 것이다.
Abstract
In this paper, I want to check the present status and the future of the area studies that research on localities is based on the uniqueness of localities. Especially I want to evaluate the possibility of the Jejuology as a regional science besides area studies. And I choose the institutional approach rather than philosophical foundation for the purpose of my research. I examine the activities of the research center, Tamla Culture Research Institute(耽羅文化硏究所) in Jeju National university with the relation to the other research organizations, for example, Society for Jeju Studies(濟州學會). In addition, I reviewed historical tendency and the role of the academic Journal "Tamla Munwha" and proposed some points to be duly considered for the enhance the level of the academic Journal. The most of the papers in the magazine until now was concentrated on the Humanities(shamanism, the local history, language study). It is necessary to extend the fields from Humanities to the Social Science and the Natural Science. And we should pay attention to buildup a book review.
