제주도 해녀의 노 젓는 소리들로부터 ‘선택과 환유’, ‘유사성과 반복’, ‘엮음과차용’이라는 세 가지 구성 원리를 찾아낼 수 있다. 해녀들은 해녀 노 젓는 소리의 수많은 문틀들 가운데 가창상황과 정서에 맞는 것들을 선택해야 하는데, 여기서 선택과 환유의 원리가 요구된다. 어떤 문틀을 선택하느냐는 가창자의 기억 용량, 가창 능력, 정서 상태, 노 저을 때의 상황 등에 달린 문제이며, 가창자가 특정한 대상을 선택하여 다른 것과 연관시킨다는 점에서 선택은 환유와 직결된다. 따라서 환유와 선택은 해녀 노 젓는 소리의 사설 구성이나 전승에 유용성과 함께 미적가치를 부여하는 원리다. 해녀 노 젓는 소리에서 유사한 음을 활용한 문틀의 반복성은 두드러지는 특징이다. 특히 형태나 의미의 면에서 유사한 구조의 어사들을 주기적으로 반복함으로써 미적 효과를 높이는 방법은 대부분의 해녀 노 젓는 소리들에서 발견되는 전승의 원리다. 다른 전통노래와 마찬가지로 장편의 해녀 노 젓는 소리에서 찾을 수 있는원리가 엮음이다. 다수가 어울려 가창한다는 점에서 해녀 노 젓는 소리의 사설이 복잡하게 ‘엮일’ 가능성은 크다. 앞소리의 내용을 뒷소리가 그대로 모방하거나 앞소리는 본 사설을 연결하고 뒷소리는 후렴구만을 반복하는 양상 등이 혼합되어 나타나는 경우들인데, 이 경우 복제와 창안이라는 두 가지 방법이 주로쓰인다. 해녀 노 젓는 소리는 노동의 현장에서 형성·전승되어 왔다는 점에서 노래의실용가치와 미적 가치가 잘 융합된 실례로 꼽을 수 있다. 이 노래의 가창 정도와 노동의 숙련도는 밀접한 관계를 갖고 있기 때문에, 담당층인 해녀들은 어린시절부터 이 노래의 사설 창작 및 전승에 크게 신경을 써왔다고 할 수 있다. 그러면서도 흥을 비롯한 미적인 요소에도 관심을 가졌던 것으로 보인다. 따라서선택과 환유, 유사성과 반복, 엮음과 차용 등은 해녀 노 젓는 소리의 사설 창작과 전승에 관한 실제적이면서도 미적 가치를 지닌 요인들이라고 할 수 있다.
Abstract
I found out the three compositional principles of choice and metonymy, similarity and repetition, weaving and borrowing from the Women Divers' Rowing Songs. Women divers had to choose Munteul fitting to the singing situation and emotion. In this case, they need the principles. What kind of Munteul they choose depends on singer's capacity of memory, ability of singing, condition of emotion, rowing situation, etc. Singers' choices are connected directly with metonymy in that singers select special objects and make them relate to the others. Therefore, choice and metonymy are the principles giving utility and aesthetic value to composition and transmission of Women Divers' Rowing Songs. Repetition of Munteul using similar sounds in the Women Divers' Rowing Songs is distinct character. Especially, the method to heighten aesthetic effect with repeating similar structures of phrases periodically is a principle of transmission in the majority of Women Divers' Rowing Songs. In the long Women Divers' Rowing Songs, we can find out the principle of transmission, Weaving. Probability to be woven complicatedly is expanded in that Women Divers' Rowing Songs are sung by many people together. They use duplication and creation in this case. Women Divers' Rowing Songs are the real examples mixed practical value with aesthetic value in that the songs are transmitted in the real places of labor. The level of competence singing these songs and labors' technique have close relation. In this reason, women divers has concerned about making and transmission of these songs. They also concern about aesthetic elements like heung(興). Therefore, we can say choice and metonymy, similarity and repetition, weaving and borrowing as the elements having practical and aesthetic value in the Women Divers' Rowing Songs' making and transmission.
