초록
제주는 한국문화 속에서도 독자적인 위치를 점하고 있다. 그 동안 국가주의적 학문 풍토에서 제주적인 것은 주변적인 것으로 밀려났다. 그리고 민족문화의 역량을 논하는 자리에서도 제주도는 예외적인 부분으로 치부되었다. 그러나민족문화는 지역학을 배제하면서 이루어지는 것이 아니라 지역학을 강조하는학문 풍토에서 가능하다. 민족문화는 하위의 지역문화를 풍부하게 하고, 상위의동아시아 문명권의 문화와 세계문화와 교류하는 가운데 그 존재 의의가 부각되게 마련이다. 그래서 제주에서는 제주문화를 주권으로 삼아야 한다. 제주의 독자적인 역사와 민속과 신화를 토대로 제주학을 구축해야 할 시기에 와 있다. 제주의 연구소, 문화단체나 연구단체에서 열린 세미나를 종합하여 몇 개의주제로 계열화하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, <삼성신화>를 비롯한 고대국가 형성기전후의 역사와 문화에 대한 탐구이다. 둘째, 고려 후기 몽고의 난을 전후한 시기 역사와 문화적 교류에 대한 탐구이다. 셋째, 조선조 유배인들의 문학, 그리고조선후기의 수탈과 민란, 주민의 삶을 역사적 문헌과 호적중초를 통해 살펴본성과이다. 넷째, 제주와 주변국과의 해양을 통한 문화적 교류에 대한 탐구이다. 다섯째, 4․3 사건의 역사적 규명작업과 문학적 형상화 과정에 대한 연구이다. 여섯째, 일제의 침탈과 재일제주인의 삶과 문화에 대한 탐구이다. 일곱째, 해녀(잠녀)를 비롯한 민요, 민속, 전통문화와 생산기술에 대한 연구이다. 여덟째, 제주 문화원형의 콘텐츠화 방안에 대한 탐구이다. 앞으로 제주가 관심을 두어야 할 연구과제의 방향은 다음과 같다. 1) 공동체 의식의 계승2) 제주 맛과 멋의 계승3) 정신적인 것과 물질적인 것의 균형4) 제주문화의 정체성 찾기5) 평화의 섬 이미지 구축6) 지방학으로서의 제주학 정립
Abstract
Jeju has its own distinctive culture in the context of Korean history. In fact, the study of the local culture, the Jeju culture, has not listed on the high priority under the circumstance of centralized system of science promotion. Also Jeju culture has been regarded as an peripheral one when we evaluate about the capacity of Korean culture. But it is not possible to discuss the strength of national culture without emphasizing the foundation of local culture. The inherited culture of a country can be prospered not only when people appreciate the roots of local culture but also the local culture is able to come across with neighboring Asian culture. Now it's time to focus on the local culture. It is the time to build up 'Jeju Study' based on the unique nature of the local heritages such as folklore and myth of Jeju. It can be classified as several research themes based on the publications of previous seminars and academic meetings. The first theme is the research about history and culture of ancient times, Tamla(耽羅) era. The second is the era of Mongolian invasion during Koryeo Dynasty(高麗). The third theme is the literature of exile and exploitation of ordinary people by Chosun Dynasty(朝鮮) and their lives. The fourth theme is to find out the facts and aftermath of 4․3 incident and it reflection in the contemporary literature. The sixth theme is the suffering of Jeju people and following literatures during colonial period by Japan. The seventh theme is the folklore of woman diver and folk song and traditional foods. The eighth theme is the creation of cultural contents based on the prototype of Jeju culture. The direction of research themes that Jeju must concern is as follows;. 1) Succeeding the unique nature of local culture and spirit 2) Thriving the beauty and the taste of Jeju 3) Balancing between the material and mental heritages 4) Discovering the cultural identity of Jeju 5) Promoting the image of peace island 6) Establishing the 'Jeju Study' as a regional science
