초록
In order to compare the antioxidation ability of the dandelion and the wormwood, which are plants of Compositate family, total polyphenol content, total flavonoid content, ABTS+ free radical scavenging activity, and DPPH electron donating ability were measured. It was found that total polyphenol content was highest in methanol extract of the dandelion and ethanol extract of the wormwood. For the flavonoid content, it was found also that total flavonoid content was highest in methanol extract of the dandelion and ethanol extract of the wormwood. From these results, it was suggested that samples with higher polyphenol had higher flavonoid content also. In the ABTS+ free radical scavenging activity test, it was suggested that the dandelion had the highest scavenging activity in hot water extract compared with ethanol and the wormwood also had the highest scavenging activity in hot water extract. It was identified that when extracting with hot water, both the dandelion and the wormwood had the highest ABTS+ free radical scavenging activity. In DPPH free radical scavenging activity test, the dandelion showed higher activity in hot water extract than other solvent extract and the wormwood showed the highest activity in methanol extract different from the dandelion. Comparing these two results of scavenging activity test, it was found that DPPH free radical scavenging activity test was remarkably lower than that of ABTS+ free radical scavenging activity, the dandelion and the wormwood had superior DPPH free radical scavenging activity. From the above results, it was found that the antioxidation ability of the wormwood was much higher than that of the dandelion; hence the utility value of the wormwood as an anti-oxidant should be considered higher than that of dandelion.
