수학 사교육 실태 파악 조사 및 사교육 경감 방안 모색 연구

본 연구에서는 전국의 초등학교 4～6학년, 중학교, 고등학교 학생을 대상으로 하는 대규모 설문조사를 통해 수학 사교육 실태를 파악하고 이를 토대로 사교육 경감 방안을 모색하였다. 설문조사는 수학 사교육 참여율과 참여 시간, 수학 사교육 참여 이유, 수학 공교육과 사교육의 만족도, 수학 사교육의 영향을 파악할 수 있는 문항 등으로 구성된다. 학생들이 참여하고 있는 수학 사교육 유형은 초등학생이 1인당 평균 2.55개, 중학생이 1.87개, 고등학생이 1.33개이며, 학생들은 주로 선행학습 위주의 학원과 학교 진도에 맞추면서 학교 수업 내용을 반복해 주는 학원에 다니고 있다. 학생들이 사교육을 받는 이유는 공교육에 대한 불만 요인보다는 선행학습, 내신 대비, 다양한 문제풀이와 요령 습득과 같이 구체적이고 실용적인 목적 때문이다. 일반적인 통념과 달리, 학생들은 공교육 교사들이 더 열의를 가지고 수업하고 깊이 있는 수학 지식을 가지고 있는 것으로 인식하고 있으며, 사교육이 공교육에 비해 우위를 갖는 측면은 수업에서 다루는 문제의 다양성과 교사에게 질문을 쉽게 할 수 있는 여건이다. 수학 사교육에 대한 실제와 인식에 기초하여 사교육 경감 방안으로 수학 내용의 양과 수준의 적정화 및 교육과정 운영의 정상화, 다양한 수준과 유형의 수학 문제와 동영상 강의 데이터베이스 제공, 공교육 수학 교사의 행정 업무 경감 및 수업 전문성 신장, 수학 수준별 수업의 활성화, 수학 선행학습에 대한 인식 제고의 다섯 가지를 제안하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to grasp the status of private education by conducting a large scale survey for elementary/middle/high school students and parents, and contrive educational policies to reduce mathematics private education. The survey consists of questions to probe participation time and rate of mathematics private education, reasons to take mathematics private education, the comparison between satisfaction of public education and that of private education, and effects of mathematics private education. The numbers of participating mathematics private educations for elementary, middle, and high school students are 2.55, 1.87, and 1.32 respectively. Typical types of private education are private institutes for advanced learning, and those for repeating school contents. The main reasons to engage in private education are not the dissatisfaction of public education but concrete and practical purposes such as advanced learning, preparation for test, and acquiring problem solving skills. Contrary to conventional idea, students perceive that public teachers are more eager to teach and have more profound mathematical knowledge compare to private lecturers. Students perceive that the strengths of private education are the variety of problems handled in lesson, and the access to lecturers for individual questioning. Based on the survey results, five educational policies were suggested to alleviate private education; the reduction of mathematical contents and the lower adjustment of contents level, providing a database of mathematics items and problem solving video clips, enhancement of public teachers' professionalism, implementation and expansion of differentiated lessons, and change in the recognition of learning in advance.
