책무성 시대를 맞이하여 교사들이 교육과정을 효과적으로 실행하기 위해 상호작용과 협력을 강화하면서, 공식적, 비공식적 교사 학습공동체가 활성화되는 추세이다. 본 연구의 전제는 단위학교를 학습공동체로 전환함으로써 학교 교육과정 다양화･특성화를 가능케 할 수 있다는 점이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 학교 현장에서 실제로 발견되는 교사 공동체의 유형과 양상을 분석함으로써 현장 기반 교사 공동체의 특징을 탐색하려고 하였다. 이를 위해 5개 학교를 대상으로 사례연구를 실시하여 단위학교 교사 학습공동체의 발달 단계를 탐색하였다. 사례연구는 학교 현장을 방문하여 관계자를 면담하고 관련 자료를 수집하는 방식으로 진행하였다. 연구 결과, 단위 학교 교사 공동체는 1) 교육활동 중심의 학교공동체, 2) 윤리적 실천의 생활공동체, 3) 협력과 성장의 학습공동체의 발달 단계를 따라 이행하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 특히 생활공동체는 교사들의 수업에 대한 갈망을 토대로 학습공동체로 전환되며, 이렇게 전환된 학습공동체는 집단지성을 발휘한 공동작업과 공동실천을 통해 ‘만들어가는 교육과정’을 구현하게 된다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 결론 부분에서는 교사 공동체 문화를 강조하는 까닭을 살펴보고, 향후 교사 공동체가 지향해야 할 점을 제안하였다.
Abstract
Formal or informal teacher communities have been activated to implement curriculum effectively through reinforcing interaction and collaboration upon meeting accountability era. This research presupposes that diversification and characterization of school curriculum is possible by transforming each school into a learning community. The purpose of this study is to explore the features of field-based teacher communities by analyzing types and phases of teacher communities in real schools. Through case studies on five schools, developmental stages of school-level teacher communities are analyzed. Case studies include school visits, in-depth interviews and meetings with teachers and experts, and collection of related materials. According to the results, school-level teacher communities show developmental stages: a school community focused on educational activities, a living community focused on ethical behavior, and a learning community focused on collaboration and growth. A living community transforms into a learning community with a strong desire for teaching, and this learning community realizes a customized curriculum through collaborative works and practices with collective intelligence. Discussed in the conclusion are reasons for emphasizing the community culture of teachers, and future developments in the teacher community.
