Abstract

Cheonha kogeum daechong pyeollam do (Comprehensive Map of the Ancient and Modern World) is a traditional Sino-centric world map in 17th century in Korea. Now it appears to be extant in five copies. Two are woodcut copies, three are colored copies. The copies are respectively in Christian Museum of Sungsil University in Korea, Seoul History Museum and National Library of Korea, etc. The article has a textural research on each of the five copies and illustrates their relations, based on which a view that a colored copy in Seoul History Museum might be just a Korean copy of a Chinese map in Ming Dynasty instead of Kim Su Hong’s map is presented.
