Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine “the others”, the so-called beings at the boundary, the area of the vague frontier between the countless boundaries of conflicts, such as life and death, imagination and reality, normality and abnormality, etc., where “the others” mostly appear. There are various types of “potential tricksters” in the area of this vague frontier, which is a ghostly space. They are located at the boundaries of conflicts, such as between God and the natural world, and they are beings that mediate and disturb, both at the same time, since they are beings to be realized within the personality, or are symbols of suppression in violation of the universal principle, so they are included within the scope of the trickster. Both tricksters and monsters have been immanent in the core of humans, using the ambiguity in the midst of the boundaries, and they also evoke the fact that the true appearance of ugliness and evil in humans is also part of us, even if we have considered them taboo. The monsters we have tried to exclude as taboo have shown their obvious differences from humans, but have also shown a striking resemblance to us and help us gauge the identity of humans. Since the 19th century, the monster has included the trait of causing behavior that reveals the subject instead of just appearing in its physical shape; in other words, showing the aspect of a mental monster or the monstrous characteristics of a criminal nature. The act of genocide, of humans destroying other humans in the name of totalitarianism in the 20th century, has shown the relationship of normal people coexisting with the monster, and this cannot be explained by simple logic based on the concept that a previous “monster” exists on the opposite side of normality. Now, the real monster with a strange shape is hiding in the imaginary world, such as in literature, natural history, or movies. These days the monster is being camouflaged with the appearance of normality, but it is still on the loose in the streets.
