Abstract

Firms are one of the key stakeholder in environmental issues. In order to design an effective environmental policy, it is necessary to understand firms’ motivations and their responses to environmental polices. This study aims to view the effects of various types of environmental policies by combining environmental policy and corporate management literature. Environmental policies were classified by regulatory, voluntary, demand-pull, and technology-push policies, and a research framework is proposed that combines the firms’ motives and responses, and performance. Subsequently, it analyzed the effects of four types of environmental policies using the proposed research framework and prior studies on environmental policy, environmental economy, and corporate management to discuss implications for designing effective environmental policies with a focus on firms’ motivations.
