Abstract
This paper examines the struggle for equal rights among women workers in the Cold War period through UE Fights for Women Workers(1952), published by the UE. UE Fights for Women Workers is not just a labor union publicity pamphlet created by a declining leftist union. Rather it is a record of the era that deepens our understanding of the cold war era, the history of women’s movement, and the relationship between government and labor. In order to read UE Fights for Women Workers in depth, I look at the various conditions in which women's question emerged in the UE. Then I examine the context in which the equal pay for equal work struggle shifted into the equal pay for comparable worth. Next, I analyze the major arguments of the UE Fights for Women Workers and their implications. Lastly, I point out that the pamphlet as well as the movement of the UE workers which once had advanced ahead in the women workers’s fight for equality disappeared in the cold war situation. But the history of the women’s fight for equality rhymed if not repeated.
