이 글은 서양근대 혁명기 여성들이 오랫동안 상상해왔던 권리와 행복 그리고 자유의 개념을 어떻게 표현하였고, 어떠한 행위로 세상과 대화를 시도하였는지를 살펴본 것이다. 여성들은 혁명으로부터 무엇을 얻었으며, 혁명은 여성의 일상과 의식, 그리고 사회적 정치적 지위향상에 어떻게 영향을 주었으며, 사유재산제도의 확립은 여성들에게 무엇을 의미하였는가. 왜 여성들은 혁명에 그토록 의 열광하고, 무엇에 좌절하였는지 그리고 전쟁과 폭력에 왜, 어떻게 적극적이었는지를 중심으로 살펴 볼 것이다. 따라서 이 글은 17세기 영국혁명, 18세기 미국혁명과 프랑스혁명을 낡은 조건에서 벗어나 새로운 세상의 시작으로 상상하고 꿈꾸었던 주체적인 여성들의, 여성들에 의한 그리고 여성을 위한 대화이다. 여성개인의 권리와 자유 그리고 이상적인 공동체를 지향하였던 과거여성들과의 대화는 미래여성들과의 대화를 준비하는 것이다.
Abstract
The article explores how the western women had imagined the women’s rights, the happiness and the concept of liberty and how to express their desire. What had women obtained from the revolutions? How had the revolutions effected women’s daily lives and their consciousness? Women spoke out and acted on all sides of the controversies and conflicts. There were impressive movements by women but no autonomous women movement. In seventeenth century English civil war Quaker women had demanded the abolition of Tithe, women’s preach, and women evangelists. During the French revolution, women argued breads for children and opportunity of employment, de Gouges declared the rights of men and women identical, gender equality. In American revolution, Abigail Adams advised her husband to remember the ladies and that all men would be tyrants they could. But the Revolutions brought the result of strictly regulating female sexuality and the women’s seclusion to the private sphere. the definition of Equality and Liberty were for women locating the private sphere, based on the feudality that forces women the love and volunteering sacrifices, but only men in the public sphere. Therefore, the condition women in the feudal family systems waits the future revolution.
