Abstract

This thesis is the study of an “imperishable history”: a series in North Korea. The series, as they are known, are the works focused on Kim Il-sung’s biography and guerrilla resistance to Japan. This works evaluated as the greatest work in the history of North Korea’s novel for 40 years have been continuously published from 「1932」 by Kwon Jung woong in 1972 to 「Cheong San Beol」 by Kim Sam bok in 2007. At the moment, they have total 33 books on a large scale with ‘the era of anti-Japan revolution and strife’ ―17 books and ‘the era after liberation’ ―16 books. ‘The era of anti-Japan revolution and strife’ whose characters are Cha Gwang su, Kim Hyuck, Kwon Young Byuck, and Oh Jung Hueb participated in the strife represents Kim Il sung’s anti-Japan revolution as a center stem. In ‘the era after liberation’, the main ideas are Kim Il sung’s triumph and a establishment of political party, land reform and establishing a Republic of Joseon People and the war, and the crisis of nuclear and death of Kim Il sung. The heroic struggles happened to Kim Il sung and the process hardening the foundation of the government and establishing a Republic of Joseon People weave a huge epic with 33 books. The series also deal with the independence organization and students’ associations having actually acted in Manchuria and around 200 historical incidents in and out of the country. Moreover, from 80 to 200 existent persons appear on each book. This series are the historical products driving the existent persons and incidents. In this regard, the series are the North Korea’s cultural canonical books as a source of national stories and a report of an official record. This is relevant to the fact that the series is charged of the absolute statue in North Korea and is succeeded to Kim lung it government as an “imperishable guide.” The series are the cultural canonical books representing the fact that North Korea is the system established in the basis of Manchurian guerrilla experiences and that the ideological core dominated in North Korea is consisted of the Kim Il sung’s guerrilla strife and spirit.
