이 글은 중국 현대 신유학적 지식인들의 사고구조를 문제시하고 있다. 현대 신유학적 지식인들은 12세기에 송명 유학자들이 불교 사상의 도전에 직면하여 대응했던 사고구조의 기본 틀을 이어받고 있다. 상대적으로 고립되고 배타적인 유교 문명을 유지 발전시켜온 이들은 전혀 이질적인 서구 문화의 도전에 직면해서 아주 독특한 방식으로 대응하였던 것이다. 이는 글로벌리제이션 과정에 강압적으로 포섭되고 있는 중국 민족이 문화정체성을 유지하면서 적응 발전하는 고유의 방식을 보여주고 있는 것이다. 그것은 한 문화가 일방적으로 다른 문화를 지배하거나 구축하여 사멸시키는 것이 아니다. 이는 개별성과 독특성을 지닌 어느 한 민족의 문화가 다른 민족 문화와 더불어 대화하며 서로 배우고 발전하는 가운데 공존할 수 있는 하나의 가능성을 보여주는 것이다.
Abstract
This article examines the thought structure of Neo-Confucian scholars in modern China. These contemporary intellectuals inherit the thought structure of the scholars of the Song-Ming dynasty who encountered with the challenges of buddhism in 12th century. Likewise, the modern Chinese scholars who have been alienated from outside of the Western world, encounter with the challenges from the West. The Chinese scholars' way of encountering with the West invite special attentions as a possibility to overcome the negative effects of the globalization a possibility to keep one's cultural identity engaging in dialogue with other cultures learning from them.
