Abstract

Home network services are expected to rapidly increase in number and variety in the near future. The emergence of home network services that connect home-style information appliances is forcing alterations in consumer lifestyles and needs as well as social and economic changes. Accordingly, companies want to identify what factors make consumer use home network services in order to develop future strategies based on what consumers want. However, prior researches on home network services are focused on technical areas from providers or supplier’s perspectives, thus they have not provided companies with beneficial implications for marketing. User acceptance of new technology for home network services may be different from adoption of other technologies in that the services are mainly used at home by consumers who have never encountered such technology before. In this paper, by offering information relevant to effective strategies for product development and marketing focusing on consumers’ viewpoint, we reduce gaps between the needs and seeds of market. We developed a theoretical model of technology adoption specific to home network services based on Technology Adoption Model(TAM) and prior research regarding general technology acceptance. The results from Structural Equation Modeling indicated that intention to adoption of home network services was positively influenced by perceived usefulness, perceived easiness, image, and perceived enjoyment, but trialability did not influence the intention to adoption of home network services. Specifically we found that positive image was the most influential factor in explaining the adoption intention. Based on the results, managerial implications for home network service vitalizations are discussed. Lastly this paper concludes with statements of implications and limitations of the study results.
