최근 교회현장에서 목사청빙(특히 담임목사) 문제가 논란의 주제로 떠오르고 있다. 그것은 목사청빙에 관련된 여러 현상들이 교회와 목사의 정체성을 훼손하며 그 근간을 위협하고 있기 때문이다. 짧은 기간에 급성장한 한국교회에 자연스럽게 세대교체기가 도래하며 적지 않은 수의 교회가 그 과정에서 내적으로는 갈등과 분열을 경험하며 흔들리고 있으며, 또한 외적으로는 사회적인 지탄의 대상이 되고 있다. 교회성장을 통한 대형화가 세습을통한 세속화로 이어지며 목사의 정체성 자체가 문제의 근원이 되고 있다. 무엇보다 목사 자신의 정체성 회복과 목회윤리적 반성이 요청된다. 목사청빙은 교회공동체가 하나님의 부르심을 확인하고 수행하는 과정이므로 그과정은 순수성과 진지성, 그리고, 거룩성을 지킬 수 있어야 한다. 본 논문은목사청빙의 본질적 의미를 개혁교회 전통과 더불어 살피며 그 과정과 절차가 온전히 성서적이며 교회의 본질적인 측면에 부합할 수 있도록 목회실천적 시각에서 반추해 봄으로 목사와 교인 모두에게 하나님 뜻을 온전히 구현할 수 있는 대안을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to establish critical reflection of the process of pastor-invitation by using the lens of the pastoral ethics in practical theology. Recently, there have been controversial issues surrounding the invitation of a pastor (especially senior pastors) in the context of the Korean church. Several incidents relating to the process of pastor-invitation have damaged the reputation of the church and pastor. As a result, these isolated incidents have threatened the identity of both the church and pastor. Korean churches have developed in a relatively short period of time; nowadays,many Korean churches have undergone the change in position of the senior pastor from generation to generation. However, these Korean churches have unfortunately experienced the inner conflict and division which is related to the process of pastor-invitation. Subsequently, they have confronted external challenges and serious criticism from Korean society. Some churches are overly invested in the motto of “bigger is better.” This trend towards the rapid growth of a church is related to the secularization of the hereditary church from generation to generation. It has brought forth the fundamental problem of the identity of the ordained minister himself/herself. In such a situation,both the recovery of the identity of the pastor himself/herself and the reflection of his/her pastoral ethics are strongly demanded. The invitation of a pastor is a process through which all church members can confirm God’s calling and accomplish it within their faithful community. Therefore, the process of pastor-invitation is respected in light of authenticity, sincerity,righteousness, and holiness. This paper explores the nature and meaning of pastor-invitation in a perspective of the tradition of the Reformed Church. While reflecting critically on the process of invitation, this paper suggests an alternate method for recovering the wholly biblical and traditional dimensions of the nature of the church, in order that both pastor and church members will observe and effectively complete God’s will within their community.
