생명공학 시대의 기독교 책임윤리의 모색－ 한스 요나스, 윌리엄 슈바이커, 그리고 참여, 연대, 충분성, 지속가능성의 중간 공리를 통해

인류가 구현하는 생명공학 기술은 급속도로 발전하고 있다. 유전자 조작을 통해 생태계에 개입하고, 인간의 질병을 예방하고 치료하는 수준을 넘어 생명공학 기술을 통해 인간의 능력을 향상시키는 포스트휴먼사회에 진입하였다. 하지만 이러한 생명공학 기술의 발전은 다양한 윤리적 문제를 야기하고 있다. 생명의 자본화에 따른 생명 경시 현상, 생명공학 기술과 자원의 분배 문제로 인한 불평등의 심화 문제, 인간중심주의와 이에 따른 생태계 파괴로 인한 생명의 위기 현상 등이 그것이다. 한스 요나스는 오늘날의 윤리가 이러한 인간 증대된 힘과 테크놀로지로 인해 발생하는 문제에 답을 주지 못한다고 주장하고 책임의 윤리를 통해 인간의 윤리적 책임의 지평 확장이 요청됨을 주장하였다. 기독교 윤리신학자인 슈바이커는 요나스의 책임 개념에 깊이 공감하면서, 신중심적 관점을 포함하는 통전적 관점으로서의 책임윤리를 제안하였다. 필자는 이러한 책임윤리의 주장을 살펴보면서, 오늘날 교회 공동체가 견지해야 할 참여, 연대, 충분성, 지속가능성이라는 중간 공리를 통해 통전적이고 책임적인 생명윤리의 방향을 제안하고자 한다.
Abstract
Biotechnology implemented by mankind is developing rapidly. They intervened in the ecosystem through genetic manipulation and suppressed a posthuman society that went beyond preventing and treating human diseases and improved human capabilities through biotechnology. However, these developments in biotechnology are causing various ethical problems. These include the phenomenon of disregard for life due to the capitalization of life, the deepening of inequality due to biotechnology and distribution of resources, and the crisis of life due to anthropocentrism and the resulting destruction of the ecosystem. Hans Jonas argued that today’s ethics cannot provide answers to the ethical problems arising from increased human power and technology, and argued that the horizon of human ethical responsibility is requested to be expanded through the ethics of responsibility. Schweiker, a Christian ethical theologian, deeply sympathized with Jonas’ concept of responsibility and proposed an ethics of responsibility as a holistic perspective that includes a theocentric perspective. By examining these claims of responsibility ethics, the author would like to suggest the direction of holistic and responsible bioethics through the intermediate axioms of participation, solidarity, sufficiency, and sustainability that today’s church community must maintain.
