이 연구는 분절음의 내적 구조가 이원적 체계가 아닌 일원적 체계로 이루어진다는 구성원소이론을 바탕으로 한국어 분절음의 내적 구조와 음운현상을 해석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 그 중 구성원소 ｜I｜가 치조음과 경구개음의 조음위치 자질임을 논증하는 것에 집중하였다. 한국어 치조음의 구성원소를 ｜A｜ 또는 ｜R｜로 설정하였던 기존의 견해와 달리하여, 치조음과 경구개음의 조음위치 구성원소는 ｜I｜임을 주장하였다. 전설모음화, 준말 등에서 나타나는 치조음과 경구개음의 음운적 행동의 공통점, 그리고 아동의 음운 체계 습득에서 나타나는 음운 대치 현상을 통하여 치조음과 경구개음이 동일한 구성원소를 포함하는 하나의 자연부류(natural class)로 묶일 수 있음을 밝히고 Backley(2011)와 심보(2016)의 주장에 대하여 논지를 공고히 하였다.
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the structure of Korean segments and phonological phenomena based on Element Theory which explains that not bivalent system, monovalent system constitutes the structure of segments. In particular, this study proves that the element ｜I｜is articulation place feature of alveolar and palatal. Departing from an existing assumption that the element consisting of Korean alveolar is ｜A｜ or ｜R｜, this study argues that the element is ｜I｜. Furthermore, this research suggests that what common phonological behaviors that alveolar and palatal display in umlaut after coronal, abbreviation and phonological substitution in children's phonological system acquisition means that alveolar and palatal can be classified as a natural class containing the same element, thereby supporting the arguments of Backley (2011) and Shimbo (2016).
