근대문학은 근대적 국민국가 건설의 계몽적 통합적 장치로 등장했다. 이 글에서 나는 지난 100여 년에 걸친 근대문학의 역사를 국민문학사로서 파악하면서 주요한 문학흐름들의 내적 경향들, 상호간의 융합과 분열, 그리고 그것이 드러내는 한계를 정식화해 보고자 했다. 글의 서술대상은 주로 한국문학에서의 근대성에 대한 분석에 두어지지만 이것을 통해 근대문학사에서 탈근대성의 자리를 밝히고자 했다. 나는 탈근대성이 근대성 이후에 오는 것이라기보다 근대성의 내부에서 근대성을 추동하면서도 그것에 궁극적인 한계를 부여하고 나아가서는 근대성을 넘어서 나아가는 힘으로 이해했다.
Abstract
The modern literature appeared as a apparatus of enlightenment and unification for building modern nation state. In this article I grasp the history of korean modern literature as a history of national literature. And in the historical flow of literature I tried to discern the inner tendencies of chief currents of literature, the fusion and division of the tendencies, and the limits of them. Though I concentrated in the analysis of modernity in korean literature, I tried to outline the topos of postmodernity in history of korean modern literature. In this article I did not understand postmodernity as following modernity. But I understand that the postmodernity was driving the modern history of literature in the modernity. And furthermore I described that postmodernity was the power which ultimately gave limit to the modernity and transcended it.
