이 연구는 김기림의 모더니즘 시론의 지향점을 재검토하고, 「기상도」에 드러나는 역동과 혼종의 ‘다른 공간’인 헤테로토피아의 특성을 밝히는 데 목적을 둔다. 또한 그러한 장소들에서 나타나는 다중적 시선을 살핌으로써 식민지 근대 조선의 현실을 고찰함과 동시에 탈중심화되어 가는 근대 문명에 대한 다양한 명암을 심층적으로 파악하고자 한다. 식민지와 함께 근대를 받아들여야 했던 조선은 이질성과 타자성이 혼재된 근대의 경계에 있었다. 「기상도」는 이러한 혼종적인 근대화를 받아들여야 하는 식민지 조선의 혼란과 근대 주체의 내면적 결핍과 같은 갈등의 양상을 헤테로토피아와 다중적 시선을 통해 잘 드러내 보여주고 있다. 「기상도」의 배경이 되고 있는 연안, 부두, 배, 정거장, 항구 그리고 메트로폴리스와 같은 근대 국가들의 헤테로토피아는 많은 사람들이 오가는 곳으로 여러 공간의 특질을 동시에 가지는 혼종적인 장소이다. 이러한 장소는 근대 제국주의의 권력과 모순된 현실에 균열을 내며 새로운 세계로의 가능성을 열어주는 동시에 다른 차원의 현실을 조망할 수 있는 다중적인 시선을 생성해낸다. 개인과 공동체를 오가는 자유로운 주체의 다중적 시선은 대중성의 확보나 근대 주체들의 시선으로 객관적이고 사실적인 현실을 담아낸다. 따라서 본 연구는 혼종적인 장소인 헤테로토피아와 다중적 시선이 문명의 병폐나 징후들을 예리하게 포착하며 근대의 명암을 폭넓게 드러내고 있다는 것을 밝힘으로써 「기상도」의 의미와 미학적 특징들을 재구성하는 데 중점을 두었다.
Abstract
This study aims to reexamine the intention point of modernist poetry of Kim Kirim and clarify features of heterotopia, “other space” of dynamics and opposition observed in his poem “Kisangdo (Weather Map).” In addition, this study intends to consider the reality of modern Joseon in colony, by approaching multiple views appeared in such places, and make an in-depth inquiry into diverse aspects of light and shade of modern civilization that moves toward decentering. Joseon that was forced to accept not only colonization and modernity was at the border of modernity where heterogeneity and otherness were mingled. Through heterotopia and multiple views, “Kisangdo” precisely manifests chaos of colonized Joseon that had to accept hybrid modernization and conflictive facets of internal deficiency of modern subjectivity. Heterotopia from many modern countries serving as the background of “Kisangdo” represented by coast, wharf, ship, train station, port and metropolis is not only the space where numerous people visit but also a hybrid place with characteristics of many spaces. This place causes crack in modern imperialist power and contradictory reality opening possibilities of a new world, and creates multiple views to contemplate the reality of a different dimension at the same time. The multiple views of a free subject crossing between an individual and a community express objective and realistic reality by way of the securement of popularity or from the gaze of modern subjects. Therefore, this study focused on restructuring the meaning and aesthetic features of “Kisangdo” by clarifying that hybrid places and multiple views keenly capture the evil and signs of civilization to widely reveal the light and shade of modernity.
