초록

This paper addresses a doubling-based construction like Prazdnik ne v prazdnik ‘Holiday is not holiday’, which has a Nominative noun followed by a Negator ne and a preposition v ‘In’ and an Accusative noun (NNIA in short). It takes Šemanaeva(2010) as a starting point of discussion, since it provides a most detailed account about form and meaning, compared to simple description as found in grammars and lexicographical textbooks. Termed as a “Prepositional Account”, Šemanaeva(2010) is shown to reveal several shortcomings mostly coming from far-fetched analogy based on formal similarity. Instead, the current paper proposes that NNIA includes a predicator v, which mediates the same noun in two different case forms. This proposal can neatly account not only for the structure but also for the semantics, while championing a generative framework’s tenet, namely, compositional nature of construction.

Abstract
