조선왕조실록의 번역에 나타난 오류

Abstract

In this article we investigated errors in the Korean translation of the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty (朝鮮王朝實錄 i.e. Sillok 實錄). The reports about Jurchen tribes were examined. We have found errors and corrected them. Translation errors are mainly the following types; (1) errors in translation of proper name, that is name, place name, and tribe name. (2) errors by misreading of Chinese Characters which have similar form. (3) errors of the reading Chinese Characters variously. (4) errors of the translation of the same word variously. (5) errors in the footnotes, though those are not original part of the Sillok. We have also suggested Sillokhak that is the Study of the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty. For the Sillokhak, the original texts and its translation should be examined closely. The first goal of it is to make perfect translation of Sillok. The second and ultimate goal is to study it completely. The study should be interdisciplinary one, because the contents Sillok covers are all of the essential life of people of the Joseon Dynasty.
