도덕과 교육의 정체성에 대한 비판적 검토

본 논문은 도덕과 교육의 정체성을 비판적으로 검토한 글이다. 현장에서 수행되고 있는 도덕과 교육이 여러 가지 면에서 교육의 실효성을 거두지 못하고 표류하고 있다. 필자는 그 원인이 도덕과 교육의 자기 정체성에 대한 혼동에서 비롯되었다고 판단한다. 도덕과 교육은 일상적인 도덕교육의 반복이라는 차원을 넘어 교과교육으로서의 자기정체성을 분명히 하지 않으면 아니 된다. 무엇이 도덕과 교육의 정체성인가를 명확히 하는 작업은 도덕과 수업시간에 이루어져야 하는 학습활동과 탐구활동의 성격을 분명히 하는 것과 다름없다. 필자는 여기에서 도덕과 교육이 가지는 교과적 정체성과 차별성을 분명히 하기 위하여 명시적 교육과정과 잠재적 교육과정, 학습적 도덕교육과 습득적 도덕교육, 탐구중심 도덕교육과 덕목중심 도덕교육, 학습능력평가와 인격형성평가의 차이를 다루었다. 나아가 변화된 관점에서 도덕과 교육이 나아가야 할 지향점과 이에 따른 도덕과 교육의 새로운 모습을 제시해 보려고 하였다.
Abstract
This study critically reviews the subject identity of moral education. The identity of moral education has been drifting by falling short of achieving its efficacies in many aspects. The main cause of this aimless drift is deeply rooted in the chaotic state of its identity shaping. The clarification of its identity as curriculum subject is the same as the clarification of the nature of the learning and inquiry activities performed by students in moral education classrooms. It is the high time to make a greater effort to clarify the subject identity of moral education. In oder to do this endeavor, this study particularly uncovers, compares, and reconceptualizes the differences of manifested curriculum and latent curriculum, learned-morality education and acquired-morality education, inquiry-based moral education and virtue- based moral education, and learning ability evaluation and character building evaluation. Besides, this study tries to suggest the persuing points moral education required to reach its new goals as curriculum subject.
