본 연구는 한국 사회의 급속한 다문화화와 한반도의 평화·통일이라는 이중 과제 속에서, 다문화교육과 통일교육의 통합 가능성을 탐색하고 실행 가능한 교육 모형을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 다문화교육은 다양성과 포용성을, 통일교육은 민족 공동체 의식과 정체성 함양을 핵심 가치로 발전시켜 왔으며, 두 교육은 상충과 상보의 가능성을 동시에 지닌다. 국내외 문헌과 사례 분석을 통해 목표·내용·방법 차원의 접점을 도출한 결과, 인권·평화·상호이해·공존의 가치와 체험·협력 중심 학습 전략이 공통 핵심으로 확인되었다. 이를 토대로 상호 존중과 다양성 수용, 공동체 형성을 원칙으로 한 통합 교육 모형을 설계하였으며, 이는 다문화 사회의 시민성 함양과 미래 통일사회 대비를 동시에 지원할 수 있다. 본 연구는 두 교육을 상보적 구조로 재개념화하고, 정책과 현장에 적용 가능한 실천적 대안을 제시한다는 점에서 의의를 갖는다.
Abstract
This study examines the potential integration of unification education and multicultural education in the context of Korea’s rapid multiculturalization and the dual task of peace and unification. Multicultural education emphasizes diversity and inclusiveness, while unification education highlights national identity and community, creating both tensions and complementary possibilities. Through a review of relevant literature and case studies, the study identifies shared foundations in goals, content, and methods. Core common values include human rights, peace, mutual understanding, and coexistence, supported by experiential and cooperative learning approaches. Building on these findings, an integrated educational model is proposed that promotes respect, acceptance of diversity, and community building. This model is designed to foster citizenship in a multicultural society while simultaneously preparing for a future unified Korea. The study thus reconceptualizes unification and multicultural education as complementary and offers practical implications for educational policy and classroom practice.
