Abstract

In contemporary academia, two opposing perspectives on shame coexist: one emphasizes its negative aspects and denies its educational value, while the other highlights its merits and affirms its pedagogical significance. This paper begins by analyzing underlying mechanisms and various behavioral responses of shame for exploring the dual nature of it. It further examines the characteristics of Conventional Shame and Ethical Shame, as well as methods for their constructive resolution. Based on these discussions, the paper proposes concrete moral educational methods aimed at fostering the constructive resolution of shame. These include educational practices that distinguish between conventional and moral values to help students develop sound value systems and self-conceptions; strategies to cultivate cautious behavioral dispositions aimed at resolving shame constructively; self-regulation techniques for emotional management; recommended attitudes for peers and teachers toward students experiencing shame; and additional moral educational practices relevant to ethical shame.
