Abstract

The growing importance of corporate social responsibility(CSR) has positioned it as an essential factor rather than a discretionary choice for ensuring the long-term growth and survival of firms. However, since CSR activities typically require substantial investments sustained over an extended period, a firm’s financial distress is expected to exert a direct influence on the extent and effectiveness of its CSR engagement. The purpose of this study is to examine how the financial stability of domestic companies affects CSR activities. Regarding financial stability, there was a positive (+) relationship between retention ratio, borrowing dependency ratio and CSR. Regarding profitability, the source of financial stability, there was a positive (+) result between corporate profitability and CSR, and the same positive (+) result was also shown in the relationship between firm value and CSR. Regarding the size of the company, large companies showed higher CSR levels than small companies. Regarding the financial performance according to the CSR level, the financial stability, profitability, and firm value of companies with relatively high CSR levels were higher than those with low companies.
