문자학에 대한 매체철학적 고찰 - 데리다의 음성중심주의 비판과 키틀러의 매체분석을 중심으로 -

음성중심주의 비판에 대한 데리다의 논의는 단순히 형이상학의 영역에 머무는 것이 아니라 매체론적 함의를 지니고 있다. 음성중심주의에서 언어 혹은 기호는 어떤 초월적 기의의 현전으로 간주되는데, 이는 문자의 보편성을 지향하는 인쇄매체의 패러다임과 밀접한 관련을 지닌다. 데리다가 음성중심주의의 텍스트를 ‘책’으로 규정하는 것은 이를 암시적으로 나타낸다. 특히 소쉬르 언어학에 대한 데리다의 비판은 그의 문자학이 지닌 매체론적 함의를 더욱 분명하게 드러낸다. 소쉬르의 언어학은 전통적인 언어관을 넘어서 문자학의 맹아를 나타내지만, 동시에 여전히 음성중심주의에 고착되어 있기 때문이다. 소쉬르의 언어학을 비판하고 문자학의 가능성을 보여주는 데리다의 논의는 문자학의 매체론적 전환과 밀접한 관련이 있다. 하지만 매체의 중요성에도 불구하고 매체와 관련된 그의 논의는 여기서 그친다. 특정한 매체가 어떠한 방식으로 음성중심주의를 해체하는가에 대한 논의가 없기 때문이다. 본고는 이에 대한 논의를 키틀러의 매체분석과 결부시켜서 설명하고자 한다. 비록 키틀러의 텍스트에서 매우 드물게 단편적으로 데리다가 언급되고 있지만, 1900년 경 등장한 축음기나 영화 등의 매체는 키틀러가 말하는 기록양식 1800을 급격하게 해체하고 있다. 그리고 이들 매체가 해체하는 기록양식 1800은 인쇄매체의 헤게모니가 절정에 달한 음성중심주의의 극단적인 구조를 지니고 있다. 따라서 키틀러의 매체분석은 음성중심주의에 대한 해체와 밀접한 관련을 지닌다.
Abstract
Derrida's critique of Phonocentrism is not merely restricted to the metaphysical realm, but also has media-theoretical implications. Language or sings were regarded as presences of a transcendental signified from phonocentrism's point of view. It was related closely to the paradigm of press media pursuing for the universal meaning of letters. We can tell it from the fact that he defined the text of phonocentrism as 'book'(livre). Especially his critique of Saussure's linguistics reveals emdia-theoretical dimension of his philosophy. Even though Saussure's linguistics shows the germ of 'grammatology', it was still strongly sticking to the phonocentrism. Therefore Derrida's critique of Saussure's linguistics is parallel with the grammatological turn of language. But his argument stops here, not elaborated further. It lacks the detailed study on how some particular media deconstruct phonocentrism. In this paper I'm trying to complete Derrida's argument by relating it to Friedrich Kittler's analysis of media in circa 1900. Kittler proves that media such as gramophone, film and typewriter in 1900 ca. deconstruct Aufschreibesysteme 1800 symbolizing the extreme form of phonocentrim based on the press media dominated structure. Therefore Kittler's analysis of media is very closely linked to deconstruction of ponocentrism.
