독일의 매체학자 프리드리히 키틀러의 매체이론과 여러 대안이론 중 하나인 젠더이론을 결합하는 작업이 현재 키틀러의 후속세대에 의해 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 이러한 결합이 가능한 이유는 키틀러의 새로운 시도의 중심에 매체유물론이 자리하고 있기 때문이다. 이는 지금까지 서구의 학계가 신뢰해온 전통, 즉 형이상학에 대한 가치 부여라던가 인간의 이성적 판단, 인간 주체의 자유로운 결정 같은 입장들의 반대편에 키틀러의 이론이 놓여 있다는 것을 의미한다. 바로 이러한 위치가 여성주의 이론가들이 행위자-네트워크 이론, 생태주의와 같은 시도들과 함께 무언가를 여기에 결합하여 발전시킬 수 있는 새로운 장이 되어주고 있다. 이 글에서는 우선 키틀러의 이론에서 여성과 여성의 역할이 왜 계속하여 주목을 받고 있는지 ‘기록체계 1800’과 ‘기록체계 1900’을 성별 역할을 중심으로 살펴보고, 현재 발전하고 있는 ‘키틀러 이후의 키틀러 이론’이라는 구도 속에서 젠더와 매체의 결합이 어떻게 진행되고 있는지 관찰해보고자 한다.
Abstract
The work of combining the media theory of German media scholar Friedrich A. Kittler with the theory of gender, one of the alternative theories, is now being actively pursued by the succeeding generations of Kittler. The reason for this combination possibility is that media materialism is at the center of Kittler's new attempt. This means that Kittler's theory is on the other side of the traditions that have so far hitherto been trusted by Western scholars - such as metaphysics, rational judgment of man, free decision of human subject. This position has become a new chapter for feminist theorists to combine here with something like Actor-Network Theory(ANT) and ecology. In this article, we first examine why the role of women and women in Kittler's theory is getting attention by focusing on the role of gender in ‘Discourse Network 1800’ and ‘Discourse Network 1900’. Then, we try to observe how the union of gender and media is progressing within the framework of 'Kittler’s theory after Kittler’, which is developing now.
