Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of shared mental model in team and its consequential effects to team performance. In this study, team environment and team dynamics were considered as the antecedents of Shared Mental Model(SMM) while team performance is considered as the consequences of team-related SMM and task-related SMM. To pursue the purpose of this study, 7 hypotheses were developed based on relevant literature. Data were collected by letting students answer a questionnaire from 3 different universities in Seoul and a total of 271 questionnaires were analyzed. The result of this study indicated four major findings. First, team environment had a positive influence on team-related SMM but team dynamics has no influence on team-related SMM. Second, team dynamics had more direct influence on task-related SMM than team environment. Third, Task-related SMM had direct influence on team-related SMM. Fourth, task-related SMM had a more direct influence on team performance than team-related SMM but both of them was associated with team performance. Based on the results of the study, theoretical and practical implication for team based learning in Universities are being discussed.
