Abstract

This study provides evidence toward the reliability and validity of the measurement instrument by developing the measurement instrument of online self-regulated learning to discuss for improving the quality of online learning. In order to this, the concept of online self-regulated learning in higher education was constructed based on the literatures. Then, the key factors of self-regulated learning were categorized with 36 items into four sub-constructors as metacognitive, environmental structuring, help-seeking, and effort-persistence. The content validity of items was verified by both educational technology and higher education experts. Next, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was conducted with 221 college students who were registered MOOC class. Based on the result, the items were removed which were the low level of factor loadings and the high level of common factor loading, consequently 16 items were constructed. Lastly, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted with 378 college students who were registered online class. The model fit of the instrument was good. In addition, the factors were correlated with each other and their reliability was good. This study contributes to provide the measurement instrument of online self-regulated learning verified the reliability and validity. Moreover, the measurement instrument would be utilized in the further researches so that contribute to the advancement in higher online education.
