본 연구는 지리과 교실 수업 연구를 위한 이론적 기초 작업으로서 교실 수업 연구 패러다임의 동향을 살펴보았다. 지금까지 교실 수업 연구에 가장 큰 영향을 준 것은 교수의 효과성 연구라고도 불리는 과정-산출 연구이다. 두 번째로 등장하는 패러다임은 교사와 학생의 인지와 사고 과정을 연구하는 매개 과정 연구인데, 과정-산출 연구와 더불어 양적인 실증주의 연구 전통에 속한다. 이에 반해 해석적 패러다임인 질적 연구는 문화기술지, 교실 생태학, 사례 연구, 실행 연구 등 다양한 갈래로 발전하며 수업 연구의 새로운 대안을 제시하였다. 연구 패러다임에 대한 이와 같은 이해는 지리과 교실 수업 연구의 위상을 파악하고 앞으로 나아가야 할 방향을 제시할 것이다. 지리 교육에서는 아직 교실 수업 연구에 대한 논의가 활성화되지 않았으나, 이에 대한 폭넓은 관심과 연구가 필요하다.
Abstract
This paper discusses about the changing emphases of classroom research paradigm in an effort to lay down a theoretical foundation for the geography classroom research. Until now classroom research has been influenced significantly by the process-product paradigm or teacher effectiveness research. As is the case for the mediating process research, another important research tradition which deals with the cognition and thought processes of teachers and learners, the paradigm has been customarily classified into a quantitative and positivist tradition. Unlike these, an alternative paradigm of the qualitative and interpretative classroom research lends various perspectives of ethnography, classroom ecology, case study and action research. However instructive, few discussions have been made about classroom research by geography education researcher. The rough sketch presented in the study is hoped to enhance understanding, help to grasp current status and guide future direction to take for the study of geography classroom research.
