Abstract
This study aimed to identify key research trends in AI education, a cornerstone of future education, through in-depth text mining of keywords and major topics. A total of 2,142 KCI journal articles on AI education published from 2004 to April 2024 were analyzed, divided into pre-2016 (previous period) and post-2016 (later period) phases. The year 2016 was selected as demarcation due to significant shifts in national AI industrial policies. Text mining techniques included keyword analysis (TF and TF-IDF), network analysis, CONCOR analysis (based on correlations among similar keywords), and topic modeling, applied separately to each period. Findings revealed significant differences in publication volume, core keywords, network connection patterns, and dominant topics. Publication numbers surged in the later period, with continued growth anticipated. Research in the previous period primarily viewed AI as a pedagogical tool, while later period studies emphasized practical classroom applications, evolving network patterns and structures, and major topics centered on pedagogical implementation and evaluation. These indicate a transition toward a new educational paradigm. The study discusses these results and outlines implications for future AI education research and practice.
