본 연구의 목적은 지리교과교실의 특성을 조사하고, 운영 현황을 파악하는 것이다. 이를 위해 서울시 소재 일반계 고등학교 중 교과교실의 운영이 활성화되어 있는 12개 학교를 방문조사 하였다. 조사대상은 각 학교의 지리교과교실과 12명의 지리교사, 현장조사 이후 선정된 12명의 학생들이다. 사례학교들은 교과교실의 특성에 따라 3가지 유형으로 나누어졌다. 또한 같은 유형의 교실이라도 교사 연구 공간의 구성, 학생 책상배열 형식에 따라서 그 운영 방식의 특성이 다르게 나타났다. 교사들은 지리교과교실의 운영 효과를 “시청각 자료 제시와 활용에 효과적”, “기자재의 사용과 관리에 효율적”, “학생들의 긍정적인 호응과 흥미유발에 효과적”이라고 응답하였으며, 지리교과교실 운영의 문제점으로는 “어수선한 분위기와 이동시간의 소비”, “교실관리의 어려움”, “지리교사 간 또는 과목 공동사용에 따른 불편”을 지적하였다. 학생들은 일반교실과 지리교과교실의 가장 큰 차이점으로 ‘시설과 기자재의 차이’, ‘수업방식의 차이’를 들었으며 연구자의 예상과는 다르게 학생들의 이동에 대한 부담감은 크게 나타나지 않았다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to inquire into properties of geography course classrooms andgrasp their operational status. For this, 12 schools where operation of course’s classrooms among generalhigh school located in Seoul were visited and researched. The subjects of the study were geography courseclassrooms of each school, 12 geography instructors, and 12 students selected after field studies. Caseschools were classified into 3 types according to properties of course classroom. Also, even the identicaltyped classrooms had different properties in their operational method according to composition ofinstructor’s research space, and how students’ desks were arranged. The instructors responded ‘effective inpresentation and use of visual and audio data,’ “effective in use and management of equipment,’ and‘effective in positive responses and inducing interests from students, for effects of operating geographycourse classroom. On the other hand, they pointed out ‘unsettled environment and waste of moving time,’‘difficulties in managing classroom,’ ‘inconveniences by sharing classroom with other geographyinstructors or other courses’ instructors’ for issues of operating geography course classroom. The studentspointed out ‘the differences between facilities and equipment,’ and ‘the differences in lecturing method’ forthe biggest difference between general classrooms and geography course classroom, and unlike theresearcher’s estimate, students did not have burden about moving their classroom.
