스포츠는 인간이 자연 및 인문 환경을 바탕으로 만들어낸 문화로서 지리적 속성을 드러낸다. 또한 일상생활에서 친숙하게 접할 수 있고, 세계 여러 지역에서 끊임없이 일어나며, 지표 위에 위치로써 표현될 수 있는 스포츠의 일상성, 시사성, 공간성은 지리 교수·학습 활동에 효과적으로 활용될 수 있다. 이 연구는 위치 및 지도 학습, 문화의 다양성과 세계화, 환경 교육 등에서 스포츠를 활용한 지리 교육의 가능성을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 스포츠는 기원지, 전파와 확산 등의 위치 속성을 활용하여 지역성의 기초를 인식하는데 유용하다. 그리고 지역의 문화를 반영하는 스포츠를 통해 문화의 다양성 및 세계화, 문화 수용의 올바른 태도 등을 효과적으로 학습할 수 있다. 지리 교육에서는 글로벌 산업으로 발달한 스포츠 사례를 환경 문제와 국제 협력의 필요성에 적용할 수 있다. 스포츠를 지리 교과에 효과적으로 활용하기 위해서는 지역의 스테레오타입화를 경계해야 하며, 다양한 스포츠 사례를 연령, 성별 등에 맞게 적극적으로 개발해야 한다.
Abstract
Sports reveals the geographic attributes as a culture, based on the physical and human environment. Also Students can access familiar in everyday life and sports constantly occurs in many parts of the world and ordinariness, topicality, and spatiality of sports can be used effectively in the geography education. The purpose of this study is to propose the use of sports in teaching and learning geography, in particular, location and map learning, cultural diversity and globalization and environmental education. Sport is useful to recognize the basis of locality by using the location attribute such as originators, propagation and spread. And students can learn cultural diversity and globalization, cultural relativism attitude from the sport that reflects the culture of the region. Examples utilizing sport developed to global industry may be applied to teaching and learning environmental issues and necessity of international cooperation. Teachers should caution against the stereotypes about the region and actively create various examples utilizing sport according to the age and the sex, effectively to use the sport in geography curriculum.
