본 연구에서는 지리 교과에서 프로젝트 학습을 설계하고 적용하여 그 효과를 살펴보았다. 본 연구에서는 인천광역시 강화군의 G 고등학교 4명의 학생들과 만 6개월 동안 마을 숲의 미기후학적 특성을 연구하였다. 본 프로젝트 학습은 지리 교과의 현장조사와 탐구를 연계시켜서 실시하여, 교실 지리 수업에 활기를 줄 수 있었다. 또한 학생들이 장기간 자기 주도성을 가지고서 연구 조사를 수행함으로써 학생들의 참여도와 활동성을 높여주었다. 프로젝트 소집단은 지리 탐구를 자원하고 학업 능력이 우수한 학생들로 구성되어 본 연구를 수행하는데 무리가 없었다. 그리고 학생들은 연구 결과를 분석하고, 교사의 지도에 따라서 보고서를 작성하는 능력이 우수하였다. 본 프로젝트 학습은 학생들의 적극적 참여나 학습 의지가 매우 중요한 요소임을 보여주었다. 하지만 이질적인 소집단으로 구성될 때는 프로젝트 학습을 수행하는데 다소 어려움이 따를 수 있다. 본 프로젝트 학습은 방과후 활동, 창의적 체험 활동, 방학, 자유학기제 등의 교내외의 교육과정 활동과 연계하여 지리수업에서 적절히 활용할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
In this study I designed and applied project learning, and investigated the effects of it in geography education. 4 high school students researched this project on microclimate of village forest in Gangwha, Incheon Metropolitan City for 5 months. This project was performed with fieldwork and inquiry of geography learning. Also this project learning promoted the students’ participation and activity in geography through performing of students’ self directed research and investigation for long term. In this study they had no the difficulty on performing this project, because they were the volunteers and gifted students. They analyzed the investigation data, wrote the report well following teacher’s guide. It means students’ active participation or learning are the critical factors in project. So then I think this project learning will give active learning in geography classroom. But small group students who composed of different abilities may confront with the difficulties on performing this project learning. I think project learning will be adequately applied and used in geography classroom, and in extra curricular, especially weekend activity, creative experience activity, vacation activity, free semester etc.
