이 글은 인간중심철학이 제시하는 민주주의론의 요지를 살펴보고, 그에 대한 비판적 검토를 수행하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 인간중심철학은 ‘인간운명 개척의 길을 밝힌다’는 철학의 사명에 대한 규정에서 볼 수 있는 바와 같이 명확한 실천적인 지향성을 표방하고 있다. 인간중심철학이 가지는 이러한 실천성과 정치성이 집약적으로 표현되고 있는 부분이 바로 인간중심철학의 민주주의론이다. 따라서 인간중심철학의 민주주의론을 검토하는 작업은 인간중심철학이 실천철학으로서 우리에게 어떤 점에서 유의미하며, 또 그 한계는 무엇인지를 가늠하기 위한 핵심적인 작업이라고 할 수 있을 것이다. 인간중심철학의 민주주의론은 민주주의의 원칙적인 발전 방향과 과제를 설득력 있게 제시한다는 점에서 오늘 우리에게도 유의미한 논의를 제시하고 있다고 판단된다. 그러나 인간중심철학의 민주주의론이 현대적 조건에 적합한 민주주의론이 되기 위해서는 다음과 같은 조건들을 충족시켜야만 할 것이다. 첫째, 개인과 집단의 관계는 민주주의 원리에 적합하게 해석되어야 한다. 둘째, 오늘날 주권재민의 이념을 구현할 수 있는 절차와 방법이 무엇인지가 보다 구체적으로 제시되어야 한다. 셋째, 민주주의론에 대한 철학적인 근거설정이 왜 오늘날도 여전히 필수적인 작업인지가 해명되어야만 한다.
Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to review the main points of the theory of democracy of the human-centered philosophy and to examine its theory of democracy critically. The human-centered philosophy has a strong practical intention, which we can see in its defining the mission of philosophy as illumination of the road for improving human's lot. The practical and political intention of the human-centered philosophy is expressed mainly in its theory of democracy. So it is a essential work for testing the meaning and the limit of the human-centered philosophy as a practical philosophy to examine its theory of democracy.The theory of democracy of the human-centered philosophy, I think, suggests convincingly the course and the task for the development of contemporary theory of democracy . But the theory of democracy of the human-centered philosophy must satisfy following qualifications for its being suitable for modern conditions. Firstly, the relation between individual and collective has to be interpreted according to democratic principles. Secondly, it has to explain more concretely the procedure and the way for realizing the doctrine that sovereignty resides in the people. Thirdly, it has to show the reasons why it is still necessary today to give the philosophical foundations for the theory of democracy.
