Abstract
The 2022 revised curriculum emphasized climate change for the purpose of innovation. In order to overcome the climate crisis, education should be provided to cultivate students’ thinking ability to actively respond to changes in the future society. Since climate change is a complex problem that occurs on the Earth, for education, students themselves need to acquire conceptual knowledge about the interaction between humans and the environment, the movement of space, place, and scale, which is the cause of climate change, through geographical thinking. Supporting thinking skills need to be premised. In this study, the necessity of geographical thinking was confirmed in the process of exploring students’ conceptual knowledge about climate change, and a design and specific teaching and learning methods were suggested for a helpful direction for climate change education. According to the results of searching for students’ conceptual knowledge about climate change, it was found that misconceptions occurred in students’ conceptual knowledge because they did not understand the location, relationship, and characteristics of Korea in the global climate system according to the change in time and space. Therefore, teachers who reorganize the curriculum need to pay attention to make sure that students learn about climate change that reflects geographic thinking such as the location, relationship, and characteristics of Korea.
