이 논문은 20세기 후반 사회철학에서 그어졌던 계몽 대 반계몽, 이성 대 반이성, 합리주의 대 해체주의, 모던 대 포스트모던 등의 대립을 니클라스 루만의 사회학적 계몽의 성과에 기초하여 재정식화하고자 한다. 루만은 사회와 개인의 관계와 사회의 하위체계들의 관계를 끊어밝힘으로써 사회의 분화된 합리화 메커니즘들과 그로부터 뚜렷이 구별되는 개인의 유일무이한 비합리성을 밝혀냈다. 그리고 여러 사회적 체계들에 대한 루만의 연구로부터 우리는 연애, 예술 등 개인의 비합리성을 독려하는 사회적 체계들을 확인할 수 있다. 이러한 관점에 따를 때, 오늘날 이성비판의 대립은 사회의 분화된 합리성을 동력으로 하는 합리적 이성비판과 개인의 유일무이한 비합리성을 동력으로 하는 비합리적 이성비판의 대립으로 재정식화될 수 있다.
Abstract
The controversy of rationality in the late 20th century has been formulated by the opposition between enlightenment and anti- enlightenment, reason and anti-reason, rationalism and irrationalism, modern and postmodern. I have tried to reformulate this opposition on the basis of sociological enlightenment by Niklas Luhmann. Luhmann has distinctly cleared the relation between society and individual, between subsystems of society. From the result of his distinctly clearing (Abklärung), I have distinguished between differentiated rationality of society and unique irrationality of indivisual. On this point of view, the controversy in critique of reason could be reformulated by the opposition between rational critique of reason and irrational critique of reason.
