Abstract

This study aimed to analyze variables affecting computational thinking of mathematics and science gifted students. This study supposes that variables affecting are self-regulated learning, mathematics self-efficacy, and grit. Computational thinking is composed of creativity, algorithmic thinking, cooperativity, critical thinking, and problem solving. 97 mathematics and science gifted students in gifted institutes participated in this study. A hypothetical model proposed self-regulated learning, mathematics self-efficacy, and grit as independent variables, and creativity, algorithmic thinking, cooperativity, critical thinking, and problem solving as dependent variables. Stepwise regression analysis indicated that self-regulated learning and mathematics self-efficacy significantly predicted creativity, algorithmic thinking, and critical thinking. Mathematics self-efficacy significantly predicted cooperativity. Also, self-regulated learning, mathematics self-efficacy, and grit significantly predicted problem solving. Lastly, self-regulated learning, mathematics self-efficacy, and grit significantly predicted computational thinking.
