Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impact of several aspects of ICT infrastructure on African economy, and find out the reasonable investment arrangement according to the impact degree. This study mainly used factor analysis and principal component regression analysis as research methods. In this paper, five indicators related to ICT infrastructure, including electricity access, fixed and mobile broadband, per capita international bandwidth and internet users, are taken as independent variables. The top 20 countries in Africa with GDP are taken as research objects and their per capita GDP is taken as dependent variable to study the impact degree of ICT infrastructure on economic development and living standards in Africa. According to the results of the study, among the five indicators, access to electricity and international bandwidth per capita have the greatest impact on Africa’s GDP per capita. Therefore, this paper believes that when investing in ICT infrastructure, it should first be invested in the improvement of electricity access and the enhancement of international bandwidth. In addition, the Korean ICT industry should first consider the local international bandwidth when entering the African market, as the quality of the international bandwidth will directly affect the trade between countries.
