연구 목적: 본 연구는 애덤 스미스의 인간에 대한 가정과 사회 경제 체계에 대한 관점을 기반으로 자본주의 시장경제체제에서 발생하고 있는 자원봉사의 의미와 영리추구 활동과의 공존 가능성을 고찰하고 공존방식에 대해 제안하고자 하는 목적을 갖는다. 연구 방법: 이를 위해 본 연구는 스미스가 상정한 인간에 대한 가정과 보이지 않는 손 개념을 고찰하고 사회적 선호 이론과 함께 스미스의 사상이 어떻게 적용될 수 있을지 고찰한다. 연구 내용: 스미스는 이기심(자기애)과 이타적 성향(자혜)이 인간 본성에 모두 존재하며 적정성의 윤리에 따라 판단하는 인간 내면의 공정한 관찰자의 도덕적 판단에 따라 두 가지 본성의 조화와 사회질서를 유지할 수 있다고 보았다. 이에 따라 자본주의 경제체제 내에서 기업과 자원봉사 영역의 관계가 분리모델이나 시장지배모델이 아닌 협력적 통합모델을 지향해야 함을 제시한다. 결론 및 제언: 결론으로서 영리 부문과 자원봉사 영역의 관계에 있어서 이원론적 접근이나 다른 영역의 침해가 아닌, 협력적 통합모델의 필요성과 이를 위한 시장과 정부, 비영리 분야의 관계에 대한 사회적 숙의 과정의 필요성을 제언한다.
Abstract
In order to explore and to suggest the coexistence of the for-profit and the voluntary sector in a market economy, this study aims to examine the meaning of volunteerism in the capitalist market economy based on Adam Smith’s assumptions of human being and his view of the socio-economic system. To this purpose, this study examines Smith’s assumptions about human beings and the invisible hand concept, as well as how Smith’s ideas can be applied in conjuction with social preferences theory. Smith believed that both selfishness (self-love) and altruistic tendencies (benevolence) exist in human nature, and that the two natures can coexist and maintain social order according to the moral judgment of the impartial spectator within the human being according to the ethics of propriety. Accordingly, this study suggests that the relationship between corporations and the voluntary sector whthin the capitalistic economic system should aim for a collaborative integration model rather than separation model or market-dominant model. In conclusion, we recommend a collaborative integration model for the relationship between for-profit and voluntary sector, rather than a dualistic approach or an encroachment of other sectors. It also suggests the need for social deliberation process on the relationship between market, government, and the nonprofit sector.
