연구 목적: 본 연구에서는 조선시대 박쥐에 담긴 관념과 상징을 파악하여, 조선 후기 성행했던 공예품 속 박쥐 문양의 상징을 살피고, 현대적 관점으로 박쥐 상징 활용을 모색해보고자 한다. 연구 방법: 사료와 기존의 연구논문, 문양을 통해 조선시대 다양한 박쥐의 용례를 살피고, 그것에 담긴 의미를 찾아내어 다양한 박쥐상징을 도출하고자 하였다연구 내용: 조선시대 문헌 속 박쥐상징은 중국의 전통적 도교 사상을 근거로 긍정적 관념을 갖는 반면, 박쥐의 형태와 생태적 속성에서 생성된 부정적 관념도 공존했다. 조선 후기에는 궁궐과 민가에서 사용하는 공예품에 박쥐 문양을 넣어, 길상 풍속에 따른 오복 사상을 담아 관념화하였다. 결론 및 제언: 조선시대 문헌 속 박쥐 관념과 조선 후기 공예품에 쓰인 박쥐 문양을 통해 박쥐에 담긴 다양한 상징을 찾아낼 수 있었다. 이를 계기로 다른 동물상징 연구 및 동서양의 박쥐 상징비교 연구로 확장되길 바란다.
Abstract
This study aims to identify the concepts and symbols contained in bats during the Joseon Dynasty, examine the symbols of bat patterns in crafts that were prevalent in the late Joseon Dynasty, and seek to use bat symbols from a modern perspective. Through historical materials, existing research papers, and patterns, various bat examples of the Joseon Dynasty were examined, and the meaning contained in them was found to derive various bat symbols. Bat symbols in the literature of the Joseon Dynasty had positive ideas based on traditional Taoist ideas in China, while negative ideas generated from bat forms and ecological properties also coexisted. In the late Joseon Dynasty, bat patterns were added to crafts used in palaces and private houses, and five blessings ideas were idealized according to the customs of an auspicious sign. Various symbols contained in bats could be found through bat concepts in the literature of the Joseon Dynasty and bat patterns used in crafts in the late Joseon Dynasty. This will help you understand more various animal symbols. To do so, it should be expanded to a study comparing batsymbols in the East and the West.
