연구 목적: 이 연구의 목적은 ‘연의’와 ‘연의소설’의 구분과 고찰이다. 고대에서 사용된 연의의 의미와 소설문학의 발전과 더불어 생성된 연의소설의 의미를 분석함으로써 그 인식의 폭을 넓히려는데 목적이 있다. 연구 방법: 연구 방법은 문헌 연구 방법을 사용하였으며 고대부터 현대까지 창작된 문학작품을 대상으로 작품명이나 작품 속에서 다루고 있는 연의에 대한 의미를 분석하였다. 연구 내용: 이 논문의 연구 내용은 연의소설의 정의와 의미를 파악하고 연의에서 연의소설에로의 발전과정을 고찰하는 것이다. 결론 및 제언: 고대에 사용된 연의는 소설의 유형이 아니라 경전해석이나 작품분석의 뜻으로 사용된 반면에 소설문학의 발전으로 연의와 소설이 서로 접목되면서 형성된 연의소설은 고대의 의미와는 달리 문학작품의 한 장르로 탈바꿈했다. 본 연구를 통해 연의소설에 대한 인식과 분류기준에 도움이 되기를 기대한다.
Abstract
This study aims to distinguish the concept of ‘Yanyi’ and that of ‘Yanyi novels’, a literary genre. The primary goal is to expand the cognitive conception of ‘Yanyi novels’ by investigating the original meaning of the term - ‘Yanyi’ used in ancient times and the development of ‘Yanyi novels’. For this purpose, this study analyzes the evolution of the names and the meaning of ‘Yanyi’ occurring in the works which are created in ancient times, as well as those come out in modern times by analyzing the relative information in target works. To achieve the research goal, this study has firstly made a definition for ‘Yanyi novels’, and has investigated the evolution of it after that. It turns out that the term - ‘Yanyi’ doesn’t refer to a genre of novels. Rather than being used as a reference for the interpretation or analysis of classical works, it has gradually become a fusion of ‘Yanyi’ and novel literature with the development of novel literature, developing into a type of literature genre, and the concept of which is different with that in the ancient time. It is hoped that the studies focusing on the classification criteria and the definition of romantic novels will gain some insights from this study.
