초록

이 연구의 목적은 한국전쟁 시기 북한과 중국의 갈등관계와 이들 사이에서 소련의 중재적 역할을 밝히는 데 있다. 1953년 7월 정전협정에 서명하기까지, 북한과 중국이 항상 협조적인 관계를 유지하여온 것만은 아니었다. 그러나 그동안 역사적 사실을 다룰 수 있는 자료들의 접근성의 한계로 인해, 한국전쟁 시기 북·중관계의 갈등적 측면은 제한적이고 표면적으로 다루어졌다. 북한과 중국은 1950년 10월 중국의 참전 이후 조중연합사령부의 설립과 지휘권 문제, 남진과 휴식, 정전협정 협상 과정에서 갈등하였다. 그리고 소련은 이 모든 과정에서 중재적 역할을 맡았다. 다만 북한과 중국의 갈등 해결은 서로의 이해와 양보를 수반한 것이 아닌, 소련이 북한을 설득해 중국의 주장이 관철되는 것이었다. 김일성은 중국이 북한의 자율성의 제한한다고 믿었으나 전쟁이 종료되면서 대부분의 갈등 상황들은 해소되었고 북한은 중국의 참전에 깊은 인상을 받았다. 결국 3년에 걸친 전쟁 동안 북·중 양국은 군사작전을 공동으로 수행하면서 갈등과 화합을 수차례에 걸쳐 반복해왔으며, 그러한 과정을 통해 김일성은 북중관계를 ‘혈맹’이라고 주장하게 되었다.

Abstract

The research aims to explore conflicts between North Korea and China and Soviet’s power of arbitrating the disputes during the Korean War. This study claims that North Korea and China did not always maintain a cooperative relationship, but they were often at odds with some events. Since the entry of Chinese forces into the Korean War in October 1950, North Korea and China had been in conflict with the establishment and control of Sino-Korean Joint Command, the problem of advance toward South, and the ways to deal with armistice negotiations. The Soviet Union was in charge of arbitrating these conflicts arising between them. However, conflict resolution was not involved in comprehension or concessions, but China’s claim was to be carried through the Soviet’s power of persuasion on North Korea. That is why Kim Il Sung once sensed that China was trying to limit North Korea’s autonomy. Nonetheless, as the war ended, most conflicts were unaffectedly relieved and North Korea was deeply impressed with China’s military intervention, hiding its discontentment. During the 3 years of war, North Korea and China had repeated discord and reconciliation in joint military operations, and Kim Il Sung described the relationship as a ‘blood alliance’.
